Local Entrepreneurs Take Steps for Future Success

11/12/2010
Dallas, TX - The Dallas District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) graduated 14 small business owners that participated in the Emerging 200 (“e200”) class on November 8, 2010 at Dallas City Hall.  The e200 class is designed to deepen each entrepreneur’s understanding of business strategies and prepare them for future growth. Requirements for each participant were to commit their efforts over a 13-week period evaluating their business against best practices. Lin O’Neill, strategy consultant, of Futures Consulting, led the class and said of her group, “This has been a red hot class. It’s been exciting to see our group commit their time and build a vision for their businesses.”

U.S. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson offered opening and supportive remarks to small business owners stating that with businesses merging, going overseas and laying off people, the SBA must offer any support to small businesses. Also on the agenda was Deputy Mayor Pro Tem, Pauline Medrano who quoted her late father, civil rights activist, Pancho Medrano, “From day to day, until the day you die, you must always be involved in politics.”

Their final challenge was to construct a comprehensive three-year strategic growth action plan focusing in the areas of goals and objectives, value proposition, three –year outlook, financial management, marketing, sales and resources. After each presentation, expert panelist evaluated the plans and offered feedback in their respective fields. Expert panelists that provided feedback for the entrepreneurs were: Annie Fairchild, CPA (AFairchild, PC), Jack Howe (Qigong for Business, Inc.), Stephen Reiter (SCA), Stella Oefinger (Bedrock Marketing), Nancy Navarro (Navarro Law Office, P.C.), Tommi Homuth (American Business Lending), Perry Espie (Small Business Administration), Marcia Southall (MLS Designs), Karen Rogers (Karen L. Rogers)  and Tom Pryor (Automation & Robotics Research Institute).
Ms. O’Neill went on to say, “An added benefit for a group of this caliber is that they can refer business to one another. And a few did just that.”
