Fun in the Sun

Who doesn’t love a pool party and cook out to celebrate the launch of summer? We certainly do. Safety should be a primary focus in planning, even at the family cook out. Here are some safety tips for playing in the sun this holiday season to ensure that the fun can go on and on.

Stay HYDRATED. It’s important to drink water throughout the day, especially if you are in the sun.

Wear SPF Protection. The sun is great for getting your share of Vitamin D but it can hurt your body if it’s exposed too long. Wear sunblock that’s right for the occasion. If you need Waterproof or Kid-Friendly, keep it on hand. Even though people with darker skin don’t burn as easily, you still need protection.

Stay Fashionable. Wear hats and protective eyewear or sunglasses to protect yourself. These stylish accessories can guard you from the effects of the sun’s powerful rays.

High-Risk Guests. If you are hosting a pool party, try to get a lifeguard or identify folks who are CPR-certified. Provide floats and other toys that can protect high-risk guests, like children. Make sure that everyone knows where the pool gets deeper. Avoid mixing too much alcohol with swimming, to make sure that guests are alert.

Grilling on the BBQ. Summertime chefs have more risks because it’s especially hot near the grill. Try to grill earlier in the morning before the sun comes out and stay hydrated. Your guests might be enamored by your cooking skill, but keep hungry children away from open flames.

However you plan to enjoy your summer, make safety a part of the plan for your guests, your family and your friends. Happy #Grillin
